[cisco-voip] Unity Connection 8 and LDAP

It sounds like the user that you created is a "User without mailbox",
a type of user account meant for admin accounts, etc. There is no
extension associated with this type of user. The type of user (with or
without mailbox) is determined at the time of import by the template
that you select to base the users on.
