CSCtj54331 IBM x3650M2,7835I3,7845I3 install fails - Could Not Detect
Version
Symptom:
Fresh install fails with error "Could not detect the current version"
Conditions:
IBM x3650-M3 servers that are equivalent to MCS 7835I3 or 7845I3 are
impacted due to implementation changes by IBM on recent firmware
releases. If the 7835/45-I3 has an impacted firmware release, it will
cause fresh install to fail with the error message.
Workaround:
Use the latest FWUCD (3.6.2-I, or later) posted on CCO to update uEFI
firmware to build D6E149B or later.
Defect is closed with this comment:
on impacted servers install fails even before we can flash firmware, so
adding new firmware to install/CUCM code will not help. Only solution is
for these customers to use FWUCD offline and then update firmware before
attempting install again.
We've seen a few instances where uEFI update was unsuccessful requiring
IBM intervention.

Wes
