[cisco-voip] Cisco CME v7.1, max-ephones & GUI Phone Importing

Hello,

I am trying to help a client with an issue where they have configured
their CME v7.1(2821 IOS 124-24.T4) with 53 ephone references (most
hard phones and some softphones.)

In the GUI, they could only see 16 out of the 53 defined phones.

The client believed that their platform was 'licensed' or restricted
to only allow a maximum # of ephones to register and so they
originally set the max-ephones in the 'telephony-service' section to
48. For a test they changed max-ephones to the maximum that the
platform would handle which is 58. They went back into the GUI and it
brought in a few more phones - but not all of them.

On the clients router:

     2821CME(config-telephony)#max-ephones ?
       <1-58> Maximum phones to support

They opened a TAC case and were told that the GUI will only import
ephone *tags* that are at or lower than 'max-ephone' reference. So in
this case, any tag that is higher than 58 will not be seen in the GUI.

They asked how this bug could be fixed and Cisco replied that this is
not a bug and that's the way it works. Cisco also could not produce
any documentation where this was warned against in any form (the doc's
might exist, but neither Cisco or the client could find any.)

We did some digging around and found this[1] where Cisco states a
change made starting v4.3 that allows you to create ephone tags that
match extension, up to 1000. Unfortunately this doesn't say anything
about the GUI issue.

Does anyone know a work-around for this? Wouldn't/shouldn't this be
classified as a bug?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
