[cisco-voip] UCM 8.x and Spares

If that is the case you will need to send an e-mail to licensing at cisco.com
explaining what you had and get the DLU's for the phones. You may have to
show proof of purchase but I don't think it will come to that. I did have to
get the Cisco AM involved once to get the licensing issued for a customer.

Not sure if you would actually be entitled to the DLU's or not. If you
bought the spare part number with the = sign attached then you never
technically purchased the RTU license to allow you to use that phone with
CCM. The idea would have been you purchased a phone with the RTU and it
failed. You then replaced that phone with the spare phone. You only used one
phone at any given time.

No I didn't license them to my 4.x install. I kept them on a shelf in the
event we needed them!

Yes it will work if you have the DLU's. Did you register them to your CCM on
4.x before the upgrade to 8.x? The upgrade licensing procedure would have
taken care of this for all of the spare phones.

Now that the licensing is so different from the 4.x generation, where you
bought each phone with a license and there were spares (marked with an equal
sign in the part number), how does all that transfer over to 8.x? Say I
have a phone with the = on the end of the PN, if I connect it to my network
running 8.x, will it work (as long as I have enough DLUs or whatnot on my
CM)?

Thank you.
