[cisco-voip] how to tell if a user has IM&P enabled?

My biggest concern is someone saying, "I sent Joe a message and they never replied" 

Especially if I tell them that they can send messages while other Jabber users are offline. 

How do they know that Joe doesn't have Jabber at all and can't play?
