[cisco-voip] dialing WebEx from CUCM/Expressway

It’s so odd because the 8.10 admin guide also has that sentence about “its free, unless it is transformed” ... I guess the proof will be in the pudding 🤷♂️

Just a quick follow up… after, you know, _reading_ the documentation, I found this paragraph in the deployment guide.
So it looks like I _should_ be safe… we’re using X.10.x soon to upgrade to X.11.x
Calls dialed without the Webex site domain consume RMS licenses on the Cisco Expressway. To take advantage
of RMS license bypass in X8.6 and later, users must dial the full URI.
SIP calls made to Webex meetings on VCS or Expressway software versions X8.9 and later can take advantage
of Cloud Licensing for both full dial strings, and simplified dial strings. However, versions X8.6.1 to X8.8.3
inclusive consume at least one traversal or RMS license per simplified call, depending on your specific software
version. For these versions, the dialed address must not have any Transforms applied, and must match the
pattern (.*)@(.*)\.webex\.com to trigger Cloud Licensing for the call.

It may very well not be however, this is an excerpt from the 8.10 guide (note the use of the word "transformation", which this section of the guide has existed since version 8.6.1):
https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/expressway/admin_guide/Cisco-Expressway-Administrator-Guide-X8-10.pdf
<image002.png>
Although, it would not be unlike Cisco to inflect meaning where meaning should not be .... so as I and Brian have suggested, just keep an eye on it :).
Thanks,
Ryan

Probably worth keeping the search rules the same and just using transforms. I don't think it's checking against Transforms.

So, we’re saying then, that the Cisco recommended approach to simplifying video dialing and/or using the pilot number approach, uses up RMS licenses?
Seems a bit odd.

Keep an eye on RMS usage if you do that though. Webex calls on Expressway are only supposed to be free if the call isn’t transformed or manipulated by Expressway (not sure if that changed in 8.11 though).

Eeeek. I just looked at those. I think the transform on the C is less painful now. 😉
The configuration > dial plan > transform screen is what I should be using I’m guessing. Interesting how there are no “permissions” attached, no zones, etc. So I’m guessing these are global and anyone can find them?

There's no way in CUCM to modify URIs other than SIP Normalization Scripts as far as I'm aware.

Just reading through the Cisco Webex Meetings Enterprise Deployment Guide for Video Device-Enabled Meetings<https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/collaboration/webex_centers/esp/WebEx_Meeting_Center_Video_Conferencing_Enterprise_Deployment_Guide_WBS31_WBS32.pdf> doc, and on page 20 and 21 it talks about simplifying the dialing.
It talks about setting up a route pattern on CUCM and doing the transformation on Expressway.
I was hoping to do all the transformation on CUCM, since that's what I'm more used to.
I've got a domain based SIP route pattern working, I can dial user at acme.webex.com<mailto:user at acme.webex.com><mailto:user at acme.webex.com<mailto:user at acme.webex.com>> and get into the personal room.
I'd like to set up something like *88.XXXXXXXXX to go right to the meeting and also a pilot, 88888, to go to the IVR menu.
Is there no way to modify *88.XXXXXXXXX on CUCM to send calls to XXXXXXXXX at acme.webex.com<mailto:XXXXXXXXX at acme.webex.com><mailto:XXXXXXXXX at acme.webex.com<mailto:XXXXXXXXX at acme.webex.com>> and then it finds the SIP route pattern? Same with the pilot?
