Hi Stacy,
If you have configured a Tagged port on the BD that is connected to the
OSR, so it is normal that the BD use the 9100 Ethertype for 1Q link.
You cannot specify to use either 8100 or 9100 Ethertype for 1Q link in
order to insert a switch in your MAN that cannot interpret 9100
Ethertype.
As you say, you will need a lot of ports. If you don't need GE ports you
can used a Summit (not 24e3 or 24e2 there are not vMAN-enable).
(The 'Protocol' creation is used for dynamic VLAN assignation).
Regards, Fabian.

Subject: [e-nsp] VMAN ethertypes
We currently have 5 Extreme DB 6808s setup to transport customer's VLANs
via VMAN tunnels.
To accomplish this it is required to change the default ethertype of the
switch from 8100 to 9100.
That works fine except when we want to trunk VLANs from an ethertype
8100 switch and terminate them on the 6808s (vs. just transporting them
to another switch). I tried creating a new "Protocol" on the 6808 and
assigning it an ethertype of 8100 but that didn't work either. A packet
sniff of the Alcatel OSR to 6808 connection identifies the difference in
ethertypes being used.
I can use untagged ports and connect the switches but the number of
ports required would be very high.
Any suggestions on how I can have both 8100 and 9100 ethertypes
supported on the same 6808?
