we did that for a pretty long time with the old ironcore and jetcore 
devices and did not have any problems here yet. The boxes ran very 
stable until we replaced them with juniper.

First: fastiron jetcore is not capable of doing bgp. That's reserved for 
bigiron and netiron routers. However, if you do simple static routing, 
jetcore will perform line-rate, even on heavy ddos. If you do bgp 
full-table you *may* run into problems because of the limited cam size. 
On certain traffic patterns, the box has to perform the lookups in 
software and will therefore go down very quick. It's also possible that 
you will never run into problems, even with ddos. So that's hard to predict.

It's expensive but just call your local foundry dealer.

Yes foundry did that a few months ago. You can still google the docs and 
download them from .jp websites. Or maybe someone will send them to you.
