[f-nsp] Line Cards not Booting on NI-MLX-4

Chuck,

Check the show flash output and see that the codes for the LP Kernal Image and Monitor Image are correct.

I had this problem on a XMR and this fixed the “Coherence Check Warning”

Good Luck

Frankie

Chuck,

Have you still got the original image in the secondary?

Also, do you have two management cards?

If this is the case remove one of the cards and boot of the secondary.

I might have missed this but if you are moving from a version 3 to 4 coipy all the files over.

Also stay away from the unified image and load all the files seperately

If you have time can you send the sh flash and sh ver command

The only think I would say is double check the version numbers. Make sure you are booting on the correct flash (primary, secondary).

I've done all that, except for the xgmac, which doesn't apply.

I've also uploaded the fpga bundle.

I've got a 20 port copper card running, but only if I issue the lp cont-boot no-sync command every reload. Otherwise, it too goes into interactive mode, claiming an application mismatch.

These images are from 4000ca, the same directory, the same zip file. It's completely bizarre, to me.

Anyone have other ideas? Please?

Thanks again.

Guessing you did all of this?

6. Go to config mode and set the module for interactive mode:

NetIron(config)# lp boot system interactive <slot number>

7. Insert the new module (module should boot to interactive mode).

8. Load all required images for the line modules that match the current version loaded on the chassis.

For example:

copy tftp lp <ip-addr> xmlb03100l.bin monitor <slot number>

copy tftp lp <ip-addr> xmlprm03100l.bin boot <slot number>

copy tftp lp <ip-addr> xmlp03100l.bin primary <slot number>

copy tftp lp <ip-addr> pbifsp2_03100l.bin fpga-pbif <slot number>

copy tftp lp <ip-addr> xppsp2_03100l.bin fpga-xpp <slot number>

copy tftp lp <ip-addr> xgmacsp2_03100l.bin fpga-xgmac <slot number>

9. Go to config mode and turn off the module for interactive mode:

NetIron(config)# no lp boot system interactive <slot number>

10. Exit config mode and reboot the module:

NetIron# power-off lp <slot number>

NetIron# power-on lp <slot number>

This is a fascinating problem with these NI-MLXs, because really, no two cards seem to act alike. I'm trying to configure a second NI-MLX, and I'm getting this response, now:

WARN: LP slot 1's application image version ( 3 3 0 6) doesn't match that of the MP ( 4 0 0 3) - put LP in interactive mode.

Updating fpgas for the card doesn't work.
Trying to get the line card to boot from from the mp primary doesn't work.
Pulling in and out of interactive mode doesn't work.
Updating ironware and monitor/boot image separately doesn't work
Reloading the entire image and then loading fpgas doesn't work.

Each tried several times. Has anyone else seen these things as just unreliable? I can't get a simple line card to just come up.

Help, as usual, is very much appreciated.

Chuck,

Do you have the latest fpga images in these two cards?

If not boot them in to interactive mode and download them from a tftp server.

        Hi all--

I've got a couple of NI-MLX-1Gx20-SFPs that I'm trying to bring up on an NI-MLX-MR running 4.00ca, and I can't get the cards to boot. They keep looping through a "CARD_STATE_BOOT" "CARD_STATE_SW_LOADED " "CARD_STATE_SYNC_FID" loop, but won't come up active. I can't update the lp files unless the card comes up. I've tried this:

        Config t
         lp boot system interactive [slot#]
        exit
         wr mem
        Power-off lp [slot#]
        Power-on lp [slot#]
lp boot system mp primary [slot#]

and the lp images load from the mp, but they don't seem to stick, because the line card doesn't go active.

Do I need to issue a "no lp boot system interactive" + new "wr mem" + reload command to get it up and running? It doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something obvious.

Help is extremely appreciated. I'm a little stumped right now.

        Thanks.
