Here's what I use (right or wrong).  GE Silicone Spark Plug Boot Release.
Comes in a 1 oz tube and allows free movement of the cores.  I also found a
source locally for a generic coil assembly with the correct size (diameter,
length, threads) at a cheap price.  I have used this process several times
with no ill effects (thus far).  Sometimes in removing the old core the
paper-like form will tear or come loose.  I have used the standard GE
Silicone glue with no problems.

Just one person's opinion.
