It turns out that some of the people who are reproducing manuals [without permission] are also removing the copyright notices that were present in the originals from the reproduced manuals.

Subject: Manual Copyrights
I really don't want to add fuel to a burning fire but I did look at all the
manuals (Heath) that I have going back to 1960 and all regular
manuals(yellow cover) had copyright notices either on the cover or on the
first page. I also had two "paper" (1-4 sheets) manuals for the HDP-21A mic
and SBM102-1 mod which had no copyright notices. Surprisingly some of the
advertising lit I have from them also doesn't have the notices including
some with schematics.
As a holder of several patents and copyrights I believe strongly that
without permission of the owners of such intellectual property,
trademarked, copyrighted or patented articles should not be copied for
gain. On the other hand I don't have any problem with a portion being
reproduced for repair or personal purposes by an individual with no intent
of commercial gain.
