Interesting! I have been using NOS for several decades without problems and
I certainly don't consider NOS BAD. As far as aluminum electrolytics go,
most are date-coded so you know how old they are. In addition, it's a good
idea to re-form an off-the-shelf aluminum electrolytic with a current
limited power supply whether it's new or NOS. How old does a "new" part
have to age before it's BAD? Although my collection has dwindled, my
SX-100, HQ-100, 75S-3, KWM-2, and 516F-2 all have their original aluminum
electrolytics in them. I would certainly use "new" (whatever that means)
over NOS, but I wouldn't have any concerns other than the reforming issues
in using NOS if "new" wasn't available.
