This is exactly what I did to my IB-1101 Frequency Counter a while back. I
installed a strain relief on the aluminum plate and used the mounting holes
already present. I used a Belden (#17237 with molded plug) round 3 conductor
SVT cord as the insulation on the flat stuff seems to crack rather more easily.
