unbuilt heathkits

Folks:
I think you're all missing something here in this discussion
about unbuilt Heathkits. There are no time machines to transport
us back to days past -- the closest thing we have to a "ticket" back
in time are material things which trigger feelings and memories
long lost, fading, or forgotten. For some reason, our generation
seems more focused on nostalgia, perhaps because we've lived
through so much, and can appreciate the fact that it's the
memories and feelings that are important.
For this particular group, the "ticket" is a Heathkit. And for
each person the journey and the destination are different. If I can
experience again the feelings of love and joy my father gave me
with a DX-60 under the Christmas tree -- that's what I'm
buying...not a box of parts. My parents' wisdom and guidance in
steering me to my first job, which allowed me to buy an SB-301 -- I
know those feelings of security would be there again should I ever
be so blessed as to build another 301. Each person will determine
whether the price of the ticket is worth it, but for me it's the best
bargain on earth, and I'd build that kit in a minute.
