Excellent dissertation on the perils of shipping by UPS which is a huge
convenience but a liability for those of us that ship sensitive equipment.
There is one other item about UPS that I like to stay away from and that is
their general customer service. They don't publish a local number and you
cannot get one from the local driver so one must deal with the folks at
their 800 number which is like calling a different planet. MANY times I
find an item with a tracking number hung up somewhere, last week an item
stayed in Denver from Monday until Thursday before being sent to the
distribution warehouse in Parker, CO some 20 miles away! When I get into a
situation like this, I get no help from the 800 number, the web site or
e-mails to their customer service group. They operate with a seeming motto
of we are not happy unless you are unhappy!
I cannot believe this company was voted the company of the year or some such
title for the year 1999. It is obvious whoever did the voting never tried
to ship a SB-220, Apache or Mohawk!
