DX-60B - VF-1 Question

I have a real Heathkit question.  I have a DX-60B and a VF-1 that I'd
like to get on the air.  The problem, of course, is that the VF-1 uses
cathode keying and the DX-60B uses "grid-block" keying.  Has anyone made
this combination work.  I've looked at the schematic of the HG-10 and it
appears that the cathode circuit of the VF-1 could be adapted but I'm
not quite sure what the neon bulb in the HG-10 is for so I don't know
how critical that part of the circuit is.

If anyone could help, I'd certainly appreciate it.
