Source for kits

During that long incessantly boring thread about ebay
there was a posting that mentioned an email from a
mother looking for simple kits for her son to learn
soldering and radio from. There are many kit
manufacturers supplying kits. Two manufacturers that I
have used (well three if you include my Elecraft K2)
are Ten Tec (www.twntec.com) and Vectronics
www.vectronics .com. Vectronics sells a soldering
course kit that I have used teaching soldering to
engineering students. It is simple enough for today's
X-generation slackers to actually learn a useful skill
besides surfing the net and getting their eyebrows
pierced. An 11 year old could easily master simple
soldering with this kit. Vectronics makes a lot of
nice shack accessories and QRP gear also. So whoever
had the email from the mother you may want to pass
this info on. Thanks for the bandwidth and I
absolutely love ebay!!
