HW-2M reset?

My HW-2M backup battery expired and after replacement the rig powers up
in a strange mode. The display shows OFF in rx mode and in transmit mode
a whole sequence of tones are transmitted. I cannot find the manual but
if someone knows how to reset to the factory defaults - basic simplex
tx/rx - I would appreciate the help.
