Amplified vs. Not Amplified D-104

Those old rigs are all designed for high impedance microphone elements. They
work fine with crystal, ceramic, and high Z dynamic microphones. You can
bypass the preamp in the D-104 and go directly. One reason for the preamp is
that output impedance is around 5K Ohms with it versus several Meg Ohms
without the preamp. The lower impedance is a far better match for today's
solid-state gear which is usually less than 1K input Z. Also a good selling
point for the CB market where louder is better. But we all know better.

Subject: Amplified vs. Not Amplified D-104
Heathkitters,
You all were extremely helpful to me when I asked about my Marauder
problem. I wish to take advantage of your collective brainpower and
experience again.
Please give me some advice in regard to using an amplified D-104 with a
Marauder or DX-100? Or not? Ceramic vs. Crystal element? Source for
element replacements? Use a different mike?
Many thanks in advance!
Chris
