Master Parts CrossRef

Ideally.... what rare documents out there would it be ideal to have at your
fingertips for stuff like this aside from the Master Parts List?
Web space is incredibly cheap (like free for me), we need only figure out
what we want to have there and it can be done with enough effort.
Actually, what came to mind for me as we discuss this is a searchable parts
cross-reference. If we could get the MPL scanned very well and checked by
some people, it could be converted into a database and placed on the web as
a searchable reference. The code to do this is elementry (I've pretty much
already written it), web space is essentially unlimited, and an engine would
allow you to merge future crossrefs into the system.
If the Master Part List is just that, a list.... then maybe doing a
searchable web page system wouldn't be so bad afterall. With some of the OCR
setups some of you have, I could probably get it up VERY quickly if someone
sent me a proof'd text-file equivalent of the MPL. The only trouble is that
I don't know if the MPL's format would lend to this... since I've never seen
it.
How's them apples?
