HA-10 Rectifiers

To All:

I have recently acquired an absolutely beautiful HA-10 1KW Warrior linear
amplifier. Sure, its built like a tank, and may cause a hernia if not lifted
correctly...but... I would like to get it working. The 5-50 Henry swinging
choke is okay....everything checks out okay. But, I was wondering: I've
never used a linear that had a power supply utilizing half-wave
mercury-vapor rectifiers. The manual mentions that one must heat the
filaments in the UX-866As to fully vaporize the mercury BEFORE turing the
high voltage on. I understand this, but the manual says heat the filaments
for 30 minutes first, then in another part of the manual, it says to let
them warm up for about one minute first. Which is correct?

I know that there are replacements such as the 3B28s.....are these similar
tubes that require preheating before application of the high voltage? I'm
not sure; they're listed as Xenon-filled replacements. Any help is
appreciated.

Thanks,
