Hi Chris,
The name here is Al. I have the Heathkit SB-301 and SB-401 twins, and am
pretty happy with them. I bought the SB-401 cheap at a hamfest, and it
didn't work at all when I got it, but I restored it to pretty nice shape,
and both units work fine now, in fact the SB-401 is my only hf transmitter
now. Both units are very stable. I had a slight problem a while ago with the
transmitter being slightly off in freq from the rcvr, but I did a mod for
it, and now it's fine.

You can also use the SB-303 (which is solid state) with the 401, but from
what I hear, the performance isn't as good as the SB-301.

Here are some pictures of both units (from a Heath web site):

The name here is Chris and I'am looking to buy my first heathkit radio. I
sure like the idea of apair of twins. I know very little about these older
radios and need a lot of input from you guys. I would like something in
great shape all mods, filters, tubes etc, etc done ! O important were there
any mole that did not drift to much.. I own an Sb-200 so maybe something in
SB line. If you have any pictures of your favorate heathkit please send it
along with your reply so I can see what modle your talking about. All
heathkit webpages would be helpful too. Thank you for all advice.
