What I do is to listen to the signal on a separate
receiver. Tune the receiver for a "comfortable" tone
frequency. You can easily "null" the balanced
modulator by adjusting the signal for minimum audio
volume. You can use any frequency although I normally
use either 80 or 40 meters.
Otherwise you need a sensitive r.f. voltmeter. I find
using the separate receiver method very easy and very
fast to accomplish "nulling" the carrier.
