SB-301 Audio

I am restoring a SB-301 Rx and find that the audio amp output saturates  with 
1/4 of the audio gain pot , all voltages appear correct and scope shows  only 
distortion in plate circuit..  Is it common to have output xmfr go  rotten in 
this unit ?  Substituted caps and tube.
