Re the "frozen" switch

Great hint!

Question:
If one takes a thick piece of wire, wraps it around the
end of a soldering iron and also around a metal rotary
switch shaft, would that not accomplish the same thing -
without the risk of an open flame near the rig?

Just wondering ...
