I would put the good 2553 into Q2 and use a silicon PNP for Q3 as it is just 
an emitter follower driving the pass transistors.  I put a 2N2869/301 in 
place of the DTG-600 and it seems to be working OK.  I don't own an Octopus, 
what do you feed them?
