While you are inside the LMO, add a piece of braid between the shaft of the variable capacitor and ground. This eliminates the problems that the lubrication causes.
Although the instructions are for tube-type LMOs, the idea is the same.

While you have it apart, remove LMO completely and pull off the cover. Inside you will find the variable capacitor, flush and re-lube both ends of the rotor and also the wipers. You will not be disappointed with the results for the amount of time used. This is not difficult to do.
