[Heath] SB-620?

The typical simple SB-620, HO-13, SP-44 finds its most "usefulness" on
quiet bands where there is not a lot of activity. It allows you to spot
signals removed from your actual receiving frequency without having to
constantly retune the band. As an example, if you're monitoring the 6
meter SSB calling frequency (50.125), it allows you to view 25, 50, 100
KHz (depending on the panadapter) either side of the calling frequency.
That's nice if you're waiting for the band to open, new signals don't pop
up on the calling frequency, or if you're in contest mode. But as an
accurate measuring instrument of viewing signals on the typical HF ham
bands, it falls short, other then as an additional matching accessory to
your SB line or your 60's/70's station equipment. In comparison, after
using a number of SDR rigs over the years and using their panadapter
features, my SB-620, HO-13, Kenwood SM-220 panadapter features just only
add eye candy viewing ambiance to the particular rig that they're
connected to. Since we're in hobby mode, that's generally not a bad thing
especially if you like viewing dancing monitor displays in front of you
as you are receiving. Non-ham visitors to your shack are also generally
impressed.
