 Hi,

Here is my investigation result:

"show ntp processes |match ntp" give me ntp processes is running.

/usr/sbin/xntpd -N (ntpd)
/usr/sbin/tnp.sntpd -j -N <----- there is a "-j", what is it ?

I checked in my M10, there is no "-j".

The firewall filter which protect the routing engine show me that ntp session (port 123) is accepted.

The 127.0.0.1 is defined in the lo.0 interface.
I don't find any related ntp error in "show log messages"

The ntp server receive ntp client request (in interval) from my M20 and the ntp server replied.

Best Regards

Yuki

This from the knowledgebase:

Problem: The show ntp commands respond with a connection refused error
message.

Solution: This error message means that the user interface program
cannot
successfully communicate the the ntp daemon process. The most common
causes
for this are:

The loopback interface does not have IP address 127.0.0.1 configured;
ntp
uses a network connection to 127.0.0.1 (also known as localhost) to
communicate between the daemon and the user interface
There is a firewall filter associated with the loopback interface which
is
blocking ntp packets (ntp uses both the TCP and UDP protocols, and port
number 153)
The ntp daemon process (xntpd) may not be running; verify this by
checking
the output of the "show system processes detail" wide command. If the
ntp
daemon is not running, you should be able to restart it by modifying the
[edit system services ntp] hierarchy and performing a commit. If the
daemon
still will not start, examine the system log file for ntp errors.

Yu-lin,

try this :

start shell
su
/usr/sbin/xntpd
exit
exit

This will start ntp.

After starting NTP, you will see something like this (2 entries):

Juniper> show system processes | match ntp
 2665 ?? S (EI/EID)

Hello,

I have a problem when I enter "show ntp status" and "show ntp
associations"
in my M20 router.

I got /usr/sbin/ntpq "connection refused".

When i go to unix shell and type "ntpq -p" I got "conection refused" as
well.

When i snooped in the ntp server, there is continues (in interval)
request
from my M20 and there is a reply from my ntp server.

When I trace using my firewall log, the ntp session is accepted by one
of my
rule.

Do you know what's wrong with my M20 ?

Do you have suggestions how to fix it ?

Thanks.

Best Regards

Yuki
