[j-nsp] type 1 or type 2 slot???

HI,
I was talking to my reseller about uprading our M40
with re-233-256. He mentioned I would need to know
what type of RE slot I have. He mentioned Type 1 or
Type 2 slots.  I haven't seen that term anywhere and
was wondering if anyone knew what he was talking about
and could explain.
