First of all i want to tell about tracing problem.You can configure like this:

Edit protocol protocol_ name 
set traceoptions file file_name
set traceoptions flag all

And then you can monitor with this command ''monitor start file_name''
or ''show log log_file

I think with trace command you could not troubleshoot interface only
protocols like ospf or bgp
İn my opinion you can use monitor traffic command for interface troubleshoot
