Hrm you know, I should really put together a complete list of all the
different ram types for different RE's and switch boards. Here's what I've
got so far:

RE Model Max Memory Default Config Memory Type
-------- ---------- -------------- -----------
RE-1.0 256MB 2x 128MB 72-pin EDO SIMM
RE-2.0 768MB 1x or 3x 256MB PC100 low-density unreg ECC
RE-3.0 2048MB 1x or 4x 512MB PC133 unreg ECC
RE-4.0 2048MB 4x 512MB ? / probably PC133 unreg ECC
RE-5.0 768MB 1x - 3x 256MB PC133 unreg ECC

SwBoard Max DRAM Default Config
------- -------- --------------
SCB ? ? 144-pin EDO DIMM
SCB-E ? ? 144-pin EDO DIMM
SSB(-E) ? 64MB 144-pin EDO DIMM
FEB ? ? PC100 SODIMM
SFM 256MB? 64MB PC100 SODIMM
SFM-16 256MB? 256MB ?
CFEB ? 128MB ?
SIB ? ? ?

Anyone from Juniper want to confirm/deny? :)
