Without having GRES/NSR enabled, I see no reason why it shouldn't work.

"Note: Mixing the 32-bit Junos OS with the 64-bit Junos OS is only
supported temporarily during the upgrade process. Mixing the two
operating systems is not supported for normal operations."

I believe this caveat is only valid for GRES/NSR and not unsynced
operation of the REs.

Config sync should be no factor.

Anyhow, I cannot find a clear statement applicable to the OP case.
