It appears to me that the telco's of today are in fact doing what many
accused "Ma Bell" and the "independents" that she suckled of
doing--being a law unto themselves with a profound "so sue me" attitude.
(Full disclosure: I worked for one or another of the operating
companies (not the "independents"--that would be Cal Drip and Tinkle,
California Interstate, General Telephone and such) or one of Harold's
Splinters for most of 30 years.)
