The clunk-kathunk of a 5XB tandem followed by a burst of muted MF tones,
hollow-sounding comfort noise with a faint 2600 hertz in the background
and the occasional brrraaaap of a step connector always used to work for
long PDD but you just don't hear it any more.  Today's callers demand
instant gratification, they have no patience at all.
