[cisco-voip] CME to CUBE config

Hello,
I have a CME and Asterisk PBX which i want to connect to a CUBE.
The CUBE will be the interconnect to my ITSP.

Currently I get issues with registering both PBX's to the CUBE.
Can somebody assist?

regards, Marty

Correct. I think we are all on the same page. If both call legs are VOIP then you need a CUBE or IP-IP GW license. If one end of the call is POTS and the other is VOIP, including a SIP dial-peer to a CUCM SIP trunk, then you don’t need a CUBE license. If you are getting your PSTN connectivity from a SIP Trunk then both ends are VOIP and you need the CUBE License.

This is more of a terminology thing. When I refer to a SIP trunk I was referring to a SIP provider. Using a SIP gateway (TDM-SIP) doesn't require a license. SIP is tricky business :)

If you want to have an exact definition it's something more-or-less like this: A CUBE is a router that is doing IP-IP between systems. This can be a mixture of H.323, SIP, and SCCP. Any time you do that, you need a CUBE license. The exception is something like two CMEs networked together with a CUE involved, where you do actually use H.323-SIP or SIP-SIP. The reason I include SCCP in the list of protocols for CUBE is for the CME case, where you're doing SCCP-SIP. Even then, if you are doing something like a SCCP controlled FXS port with CUCM using SIP to a gateway, you wouldn't need a CUBE license. This is why I used a 'basic guideline' in my original post, because it's often misconceived because of these details.

I don’t think you need a cube license if you are setting your dial-peer to use SIP and have it terminate on CUCM. If you are getting the original calling leg from a TDM interface and sending it via SIP to CUCM I don’t think you need the CUBE license. IT is only if both call legs on the router come in as VOIP, as long as one is a POTS leg you are fine.

Some of this is true, some not.

Basic guideline - any time you have a SIP trunk you need a CUBE. This includes CME, CUCM, CUCM-SME, etc.

Any time you have a CUBE (CME, 2800/3800, 2900/3900, ASR) you need licensing.

The licensing is not enforced on any platform, but there are plans. CUSP is licensed and enforced however.

That’s not the case. CME even with the 2900s has the license needed to do SIP trunks to the PSTN.

2800 series.this is true....2900/3900 series need cube license is: expensive. I think we quoted 75 sip sessions cost $6,000.00
